X5 Group opens Pyaterochka logistics centre in Kursk region

Russia's largest retailer X5 Group has opened a distribution center of Pyaterochka chain stores in Kursk region, it will provide products to 730 stores of the chain in Kursk, Orel, Belgorod and Bryansk regions, the company's press service said.

"X5 Group, Russia's leading retailer, announces the development of central Russia's logistics infrastructure and the opening of the distribution center (DC) of the Pyatyorochka retail chain in the Kursk region. The Kursk RC with an area of more than 40.6 thousand square metres includes five storage areas: for fresh food, fruit and vegetables, frozen products, as well as dry and alcoholic warehouses. Each section has special temperature conditions required to preserve the freshness of products. When the distribution center reaches its full capacity, it will provide products to 730 Pyatyorochka stores in Kursk, Orel, Belgorod and Bryansk regions," the company said.

The launch of the new distribution center will allow the region's manufacturers not only to cut costs on transportation, but also to expand the geography of their products' sales, as X5 Group notes. When the logistics complex reaches its full capacity, it will provide services to about 1 thousand suppliers. The work of the complex will increase the share of Kursk region manufacturers in the network's turnover in the region, which exceeds 80% in some categories. According to the retailer's estimates, the logistics complex is able to handle 3 thousand tons of cargo per day.

Currently there are 182 Pyatyorochka stores under the management of X5 Group in Kursk region. By the end of the year it is planned to open 10 more stores of the retail chain in the region.
