"Damate reaches 100% self-sufficiency in hatching eggs in Rostov region

Damate Group has reached 100% self-sufficiency in hatching eggs in Rostov region. This was reported by the press service of the company.

Damate Group CEO Rashid Khairov noted that self-sufficiency can become a key advantage of the company.

"Establishment of a parent turkey flock in Rostov will allow us to significantly reduce the dependence of Damate's poultry division on imported genetic material, reduce biological risks and increase egg quality indicators due to a shorter storage period and due to optimization of logistics. Eggs are transported over very short distances, which reduces the number of delivery losses and gives maximum hatchability of chicks," he believes.

The company began work on forming a parent flock in September 2020. At that time, the first consignment of day-old chicks was imported from the UK. At the end of April 2021 18 thousand breeding turkeys were already transferred from the young laying hens area to the laying hens area. According to the schedule in May specialists received the first hatching eggs from the breeding reproducer and started regular laying in their own hatchery for subsequent hatching of day-old chicks for the commercial flock.

"Damate is the only turkey producer in Russia creating its own parent flock on an industrial scale. Now the total design capacity of all production sites of the breeding farm is about 10 million chicks per year.
