Mevodena

Innovation Company of Mevodena is a St. Petersburg research organization engaged in development of energy efficiency and energy saving using innovative membrane technologies.

Innovation Company of Mevodena, was registered as a limited liability company in November 2011. The purpose of the company was to implement an innovation project that successfully passed scientific expertise in the Skolkovo Innovation Centre. Mevodena received its name from the acronym "membrane separation of hydrogen" for direct transformation of organic fuel into electrical fuel.

Researchers from the laboratory of the St. Petersburg State University of Communications have developed a unique project for the production of hydrogen from organic fuels using composite membranes based on Group 5 metals, which avoids the use of the well-known method using expensive palladium. With the help of ultrafine membranes, hydrogen is separated and the fuel is converted into electricity.

Hydrogen energy, as an efficient and environmentally friendly technology, is increasingly being used in transport, utilities, informatics and communication technologies and economically justifies the production of pure hydrogen for various sources of electrical energy. The project to develop ultra-permeable membranes for hydrogen energy applications received the status of a participant of the Skolkovo Innovation Fund. Mevodena has a good chance of becoming a major exporter of low-cost alternative palladium membranes for the production of the world's cleanest hydrogen-based fuel in the near future.
