Turkish flour mills are thinking about opening their production facilities in Russia

Major Turkish flour producers may organize production in Russia amid restrictions on the export of Russian wheat. The issue was discussed on 11 June at a meeting with Marina Afonina, director of the Food and Processing Industry Department of the Ministry of Agriculture, Kommersant newspaperreported, citing sources.

According to the newspaper, the developer of the project may act as a Turkish company "MonDef", which will build near the Black Sea coastal complex with a mill capacity of 1 thousand tons of grain per day for the subsequent supply of flour to foreign markets. Construction of the complex could take up to two years.

Turkey is the world's largest flour exporter, with about 70% of wheat for processing the country imports from Russia. The decision to build a flour mill in the country may be due to the unstable economic situation in Turkey, the high volatility of the Turkish lira and restrictions on grain exports from Russia, experts explained to the publication.
